I believe one of our biggest barriers is the absence of a clear, coordinated, business-minded approach to attracting and supporting major events.

Sarnia has tremendous assets: our waterfront, beaches, parks, arenas, sports facilities, proximity to the U.S. border and a community with a history of supporting major events. We should be using those assets much more aggressively.

I would establish a one-window major-event process so organizers aren’t bounced between departments. The City would provide one lead contact to coordinate permits, facilities, policing, fire, transit, road closures and other municipal requirements.

I also believe the Mayor should be one of Sarnia’s strongest salespeople. We should actively pursue festivals, tournaments, concerts and tourism opportunities rather than waiting for organizers to come to us.

The goal is not simply spending taxpayers’ money on events. It is creating an environment where private investment, sponsorships and community partnerships can bring people to Sarnia, fill our hotels and restaurants, support local businesses and showcase our city.

Fix the Basics and Build the Future.
