One specific action I would take is to identify City-owned land and underutilized properties that could be made available for residential development, while streamlining the municipal approval process for projects that provide a mix of attainable housing options. The goal would be to increase the supply of housing by making better use of land Sarnia already has, while encouraging private and non-profit developers to bring projects forward. I would also want clear targets and regular reporting so Council and residents can see whether these changes are actually producing results. By the end of a four-year term, I would expect to see additional housing units brought to market, more housing choices for working families and individuals, and a measurable reduction in unnecessary delays and barriers within the City’s control.
