Ben's Bike Tours

Ben's Bike Tours

Between 2023 and 2025, nuSarnia hosted a series of guided community rides known as Ben’s Bike Tours, led by nuSarnia’s co-founder and lifelong cyclist Ben Prins.

These small-group tours invited residents to experience Sarnia from the perspective of a bicycle while learning about the city’s growing active transportation network.

The tours followed a relaxed pace along trails, multi-use paths, and city streets, creating an opportunity for participants to explore the city in a new way while building confidence cycling through different parts of Sarnia.

Project Goals

Ben’s Bike Tours were designed with several goals in mind:

Goal 1

Strengthen community connection by bringing residents together for shared experiences outdoors.

Goal 2

Introduce people to Sarnia’s existing cycling infrastructure, including trails and neighbourhood connections.

Goal 3

Build confidence for new and casual riders by helping them learn comfortable routes through the city.

Goal 4

Share future possibilities for cycling in Sarnia, including the vision for stronger east-west connections across the community.

For many participants, the tours were their first tie experiencing how Sarnia’s trail network connects neighbourhoods, parks, and downtown destinations. the rides also created space for conversations about how cycling infrastructure can continue to evolve in the future.

A Different Way to Experience the City

One of the most powerful aspects of the tours was the chance to see familiar places in a new way. Riding together allowed participants to slow down, notice details they might miss when driving, and connect with other residents who care about creating a more bike-friendly city.

Each ride became more than just a tour. it was a way for people to build relationships, share ideas, and imagine how Sarnia could continue to grow as a community where cycling is a comfortable and accessible option for everyday travel.

Highlights from the Tours

Over three summers, Ben’s Bike Tours helped residents experience Sarnia’s trails and neighbourhood connections in a new way.

Participants consistently shared how the tours helped them see their city differently and feel more confident riding.

Looking Ahead

While additional Ben’s Bike Tours are not currently scheduled, the project helped spark important conversations about active transportation and community connection.

The spirit of the tours continues to influence nuSarnia’s work today through projects focused on trail activation, cycling education, and improving connections across the city.
