Canatara Park Lifeguard Station Mural

Council Delegation: Public Art Mural at Canatara Lifeguard Station

nuSarnia is excited to present a proposal for a new public art mural at the Canatara Park Lifeguard Station at the upcoming City Council meeting on March 31. This project aims to enhance one of Sarnia’s most beloved waterfront spaces by transforming the lifeguard station into a striking, community-driven piece of public art.

Public art has the power to bring spaces to life, foster civic pride, and creative inviting, dynamic environments for residents and visitors alike. A mural at Canatara would celebrate the park’s natural beauty, highlight local artistic talent, and contribute to the ongoing revitalization of our public spaces.

If you believe in the value of public art and would like to see this project move forward, we encourage you to show your support! Submitting a letter of support to City Council is a powerful way to demonstrate that the community values this initiative. Every voice matters in making this vision a reality!

About The Project

nuSarnia is presenting a public art project opportunity: a community-designed mural for the Canatara Park Lifeguard Station.

This initiative stems from feedback received from residents who believe the lifeguard station would benefit from revitalization. This City has also received similar concerns regarding the building’s appearance. Given its prominent location at Sarnia’s Blue Flag Beach, this project presents an opportunity to enhance a key feature of Canatara Park in a way that aligns with community input and the park’s long-term vision.

nuSarnia proposes donating this mural to the City as a way to revitalize the space. With Canatara Park currently undergoing the implementation of a master plan, this project could serve as a pilot initiative to assess the impact of public art in the park while ensuring alignment with its long-term goals.

The proposed mural aims to transform the lifeguard station into a visually striking and meaningful piece of public art—one that reflects the natural beauty, history, and recreational spirit of the park.

The project proposal includes:

  • Full funding an implementation by nuSarnia at no cost to the City
  • A design created by a local artist, selected through an open call
  • Installation using mural cloth for long-term durability and easy application
  • A temporary enhancement that will not interfere with the Canatara Park Master Plan

This initiative represents an opportunity to enrich Canatara Park with community-driven art while enhancing a key public space.
